Test and Validation Methods

Classic test approaches are no longer sufficient for the release of level 4 vehicles due to the enormous number of traffic situations to be tested, which correspond to several billion test kilometres in reality. The majority of test drives must therefore be virtualised. Virtual tests are faster and can be realised with less effort and less risk.

As part of this work package, scenario-based testing is being investigated with the aim of overall vehicle verification and safety validation of automated vehicles. This is based on test methods currently under research, which are further developed and demonstrated. Particular attention is paid to their suitability for potential series development of a level 4 vehicle and their future industrial usability.

Main topics
  • Researching test concepts and test case catalogues for overall vehicle verification and safety validation
  • Use of simulative test methods for verification and validation
  • Plausibility check of selected simulations on the test track
  • Execution of some relevant test cases for the release of a demonstration vehicle
